My name is Quante Harrison, and I am currently a federal inmate housed at Kankakee County. I created this platform because i want the world to hear my story because I know I'm not the only one who grew up without guidance, support, or direction. Too many people, both inside and out of jail, are still searching for purpose and a way out.
I was raised on the west side of Chicago, in a neighborhood where drugs, violence, and survival were everyday life. My parents struggled with addiction, and from a young age, I had to learn how to take care of myself. The streets were the only way I knew and at that time, it didn't feel wrong. It felt necessary.
But sitting in jail, I finally asked myself: How did my life come to this ?
Now that I'm grown and a father of two, I see things differently. I don't want my kids to walk the same path I did. I want them to grow up safe, with real support, real direction, and the opportunity to live a better life. So that mean I had to change my mindset, my habits, my purpose.
Everything I've been through has shaped the man I am today. And I'm not ashamed of my past. I'm using it. I'm turning it into purpose.
I am the founder of D.O.P.E (Dreams only progress with Effort), a movement, dedicated to inspiring change within ourselves and our communities. This is bigger than me. It's about showing people that transformation is possible no matter where you start.
